McCarthy & Smith, Inc. completed two projects for the University of Detroit Jesuit High School & Academy. The new Science and Engineering Center was constructed between two 1930 vintage buildings. The Johnson Recreation Center was revitalized with extensive renovations for use by student athletes and community members.

  • Johnson Recreation Center
    • The completely renovated 1979, 34,000 sf building contains an indoor athletic turf field with batting cages, refurbished gym, team room, golf simulator room, and locker spaces
    • Community use spaces include a multi-purpose room and computer room for tutoring and after-school programs
    • Upgrades to 10.5 acres of athletic fields including three soccer fields
    • CAM Magazine June 2022 featured the history of Johnson Recreation Center building and the revitalization process
  • New Science and Engineering Center
    • Four-story, 40,000 sf addition with a project value of $15 million
    • Project scope included science classrooms, laboratory spaces, and technology labs with additional areas for eco-car, robotics, and engineering activities
    • Foundations and pre-cast concrete stairwell were erected and made functional in less than six weeks
    • Project received a 2016 AGC Build Michigan Award
