  • Original facilities were designed by Minauro Yamasaki in 1956 as an open campus collection of buildings. The scope of this project included constructing a new 7,500sf addition with a 3,500sf sanctuary at the main level, and a 3,000sf basement / lower level containing four (4) classrooms and restrooms. A 1,100sf enclosed gallery corridor in the courtyard was constructed connecting the main entrance with the new sanctuary. A main addition steel frame with cantilevered curvilinear shapes intersecting the main orthogonal section was also included in the scope. The orthogonal sections were clad with brick and curvilinear sections were clad with flat seam 16oz. copper. The building was sited to minimize the impact on the immediate landscape environment. McCarthy & Smith, being selected at the schematic design phase, shepherded building committee and architect through arduous design process providing estimating, value management, value engineering and scheduling services; documented meetings and drafted action plans for project team. Our firm managed the entire bid process, and managed all on-site construction activity.
